I have it on a stand and it is pushing 2 12" speakers. It's all very subjective. The Vintage 30 is a damn fine speaker, as are the Weber and Celestion blue. Top. It was brand new and priced at £5, so I took a punt and put it in my Vibrochamp. I always thought the Warehouse speakers were pretty good. Hard to find a good photo of the Concert. Posts: 3,594. by LeftyStrat » Tue Dec 27, 2011 6:52 am, Post I saw them this winter in Seattle and the amp (and guitar and the guy actually playing it) sounded great, I saw them on the night they did the semi acoustic style setup. I’ve tried a lot of speakers in my original ‘59 Deluxe. I have a 1957 Deluxe. It's almost feels like i'm the one wrong for saying I can't get along with it and for not buying the "this is the most authentic current speaker for 5E3". He has since stated that he is "cancer-free" but will continue receiving chemotherapy treatments. celestion are making the best alnico speakers out there today... an original fender tweed would have had an alnico speaker...they only went to ceramic/ferrite magnet speakers due to cost..way cheaper! Pack up your sh** and get out of my club. Complete w/ sound clips an' everything. I'm finding 20 watts to be a lot of fun. For a long time I had a G12C/S which sounded pretty good, wgs says these are smokey/darker speakers but I didn't notice that in the amp with my playing, and the Veteran 30 will put me in line with a Vintage 30. which feeds back and but at high volumes... and I like playing loud but I am self aware enough that I dont want to just be some loud ass guy wailing away on stage and it is just drowning out everything else or just killing the people in the front row. I tried a Weber 12A125A but my thoughts about it were in line with yours. Powerjet, what guitar are you using? Or the blue would work ok too ? the reissue Jensens are quite good once they've been played in. I've always really liked the sound of the reissue C12N, and more recently discovered the C12Q. The Q has less headroom, but I AB'd it with a 1960 C12R in my old Ampeg Mercury, and it sounds almost the same, but with a little more bass response and headroom, as expected. Rght now I'm going to go back to one of the speakers I had in for a while back, Warehouse G12c/s and purchase a Warehouse WGS Veteran 30 and see which one works best. Jensen C12N reissues are also great sounding speakers...very similar to a Vintage 30, but not quite as expensive sounding on the low end. I haven't tried one myself, but reports suggest that they have a little more midrange than the ceramics. I dunno I am having a really hard time with amps in a live setting. @billyzoom you think a vintage 30 would work good in tweed deluxe (6V6 & 5Y3) for 50’s inspired rockabilly rock n roll ? They are not available in North America any more, but are still sold in Europe. He is an Anaheim resident and owns the Billy Zoom Custom Shop near Old Towne Orange. Discussion in 'Amp Central Station' started by beach bob, Jan 27, 2009. It's obviously a very different amp, but I love that speaker, which is older and was made in Ipswitch, not China. By the 3rd album, we were on Elektra and had enough time and roadies to have all of my amps ans guitars brought to the studio so I could just pick the most appropriate one. It's on it's side in this photo because that head won't sit over the handle. I had a couple of rolls of it. here is the concert model that kept coming up for me The amp came originally with a P12Q. It weighs about 10 pounds. The Quad Reverb was about 120 watts through four vintsge Celestion Green Back G12-30's. But I put a Celestion Blue in my 5A3 about 15 years ago and nothing has displaced it. "The FET input goes to that vertical card on the far left. by M Fowler » Wed Dec 28, 2011 1:19 am, Post My circuits are all new and innovative. " The V30 will definitely get you much more volume and headroom, and the low end can't be beat. The Weber sounded fine, but when I played the amp with the Jensen, I smiled. For "more chime, headroom, pick dynamics and a bit more upper mids", I think a Celestion Blue should be perfect. In college my band covered X songs and I used a Rat. I use a Weber 12A125A and a 12F150. At least for now I'm limiting myself to 20 watts or less. I've had a few speakers in that amp over the last 35 years - ceramic and alnico - but it has never sounded better than it does with the C10. This is a Billy Zoom reverb/tremolo unit that sounds fantastic. I doesn't seem to have helped much, but it was fun. By far, my favorites for the amp are the Celestion blue alnico followed by a vintage Celestion Silver alnico. Hope some of you join to back me up. I am often told by the sound guy that I need to turn down but if I turn down I am not able to get feedback or the desired tone. In fact I hope for just the opposite and gleam a lil knowledge my way. I thought the tone stacks on Dumble amps shared some common elements Fender??? Ultra-Linear, 120-ish watts, vintage Celestions. Personally, I'm using a Jensen P12Q in my 57 Tweed Deluxe Reissue. by Structo » Wed Dec 28, 2011 12:52 am, Post I think i'm gonna jump into that forum too. No ear plugs. Their subsequent release of the Tornado sounds muffled and dull to my ear. I currently have a Weber 12A125A and it's a bit narrow, hollow, and compresses/softens a bit faster then I'd like. One more thought; the Weber 12A150 is a beautiful sounding speaker, not at all like the 12A125. THis photo was in Brazil a few years ago with Pearl Jam. Here in the states, if we say something is Hot Rodded, that means it has been modified and is no longer a stock item. I think a ceramic will fix me up. The models I'm familiar with are their versions of the original Jensens. Others I’ve tried include: vintage P12Q, vintage P12P, Celestion G12M25, Celestion G12H30, and a ceramic Weber blue dog (I forget the model number). Be patient. Just one thing, that Billy Zoom guy is an idiot. That quad reverb silver jet photo was posted somewhere deep on the internet and read super reverb which is where I got my original comment from. I think much depends on the amp itself and the tone you're shooting for. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. And now I use this. I have number 027 of the initial 100. I can't wait to hear you thru a 20 watt amp. i had a Lopoline 2x12 loaded with them that i miss very much. Thanks for the info. Another great sounding speaker for classic Fender sounds is the Jensen Neo (not the Tornado) which was Jensen's first release of a neodymium magnet speaker. Our styles of communicating weren't gelling, but since you're from Kentucky I'll treat you as a friend. Still have it, I saw X in the 80's but didn't notice the pedal setup. Still I wanted to post my last response from on the GDP over here as it seems we are being cast as a bunch of idiots over there. Coming back to the reissues, I just replaced the Weber 12F150 in my silverface Princeton Reverb with a reissue Jensen C12N, that was well broken in. I've had a few speakers in that amp over the last 35 years - ceramic and alnico - but it has never sounded better than it does with the C10. billy the 1960 fender concerts I was looking up all came back as 4x1- 40 watt models. BZ. I think Billy is oversimplifying the whole thing with the "one cap change"... all the guitar amps have some DNA from someone elses ideas/concepts. By the time X started, I'd already finished Electronics school, opened my own custom amp shop in Hollywood, and had my own boutique amp line for a short time (apparently these ventures require something called "capital" rather than just a bunch of neat ideas). And the Quad Reverb, which I used on the 1983/early'84 tour. My point is that there was very little Fender left in the Quad; mostly just the cabinet, transformers, and knobs. It's a solid-state fuzz pedal mounted inside the amp.". I don't care how much a guy had to smoke or drink that crap Henry Kaiser was playing and trying pawn off as music was disgusting. Price aside you’d still pick the v30 over the blue? Hey guys I'm roadjunkie from the GDP and I just want to state I'm not coming over here to cause problems. I still record with that cabinet frequently. And always remember: The soundman is there to make the band sound good...not the other way around. My best experience with ceramic Jensens is a 4 Ohm C10 reissue that my wife spotted in a charity shop. Billy it is all there. I haven't had it on high power since 1985, and I only used both cabnets for the first year. cbass Posts: 3911 Joined: Sat Jul 23, 2011 6:17 pm. I know you were known for playing a super reverb but I have fuzzy memories about a thread here from years ago when you were discussing another fender model amp that you were using when you started to modify amp circuits to get the desired tone. by GLH » Wed Dec 28, 2011 2:23 am, Powered by phpBB® Forum Software © phpBB Limited, Overdrive Special, Steel String Singer, Dumbleland, Odyssey, Winterland, etc. The super reverb comment is obsolete at this point so ignore. I put a Vintage 30 in my 1964 BF DR. I think that has to do with measurements, but I also have a sense that there is some ill wind between Jensen (Recoton) and Weber. If he his one out of two guys in the world that can build amps then we should all cut our wrists and blead to death. WGS and Weber make some great speakers too. I live in NYC by the way and am from Kentucky originally incase anyone cares :/. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. I can get any kind of tone I want, and my ears stay happy, even with the hardest power chords. I loved the original P12R for cleanish stuff, but it farted out laughably when pushed very hard. I have also enjoyed the Weber Blue and Silver Dogs and the Jensen P12Q with tweed Deluxe circuits. The psychics on my bench is the same as Dumble'". It's quick, easy, and much appreciated. I use a vintage Jensen P12R in my 55 tweed 5E9 tremolux - beautiful overdrive when I turn the tone control up. The amp I built in '84 is 55watts or 110 watts, with one or two Celestion 4-12" cabinets. Joined: Jan 31, 2008 Location: South Florida... and also a quick tour of his studio in Orange County, CA. Post by brentm » Wed Dec 28, 2011 2:16 am, Post The Gretsch Pages: Where real Gretsch talk happens — since 1995™. I found a period correct one for the amp and it sounds very nice. by hairyandy » Tue Dec 27, 2011 6:32 am, Post Did the hot rods boost the output at all? I think we have some language issues. Another thing I am curious about is that if it was a super reverb that whole time those amps are only 40 watts and X was playing big clubs so I would expect you to be playing something with even more power than 40 watts. Myself I'm just fine with my Tophat Ambassador 50. Sure there is, but there are only couple of us who still know how to design an amp from scratch. The amp I built in '84 is 55watts or 110 watts, with one or two Celestion 4-12" cabinets. Here you can see that 4-10" ZOOM cabinet that I used on most X recordings. Still can't hear anything over 10kHz! 20 watts, one Vintage 30. I have been having a lot of fun with feedback out of my 15 watt tube amp and my falcon and CCjr. Period. I'm back to nothing but single ended amps and loving it. Post by cbass » Tue Dec 27, 2011 1:24 pm I like Kool-aid. The bottom cabinet was actually an optional ext. Now, that's not to discount the vintage 'tweedy' thing in any way; I can finally embrace the midrange in my old Ampeg and Filmosound conversion, but there's just something about the sound of a BF/SF Fender with a Jensen speaker that says, "Welcome home.".
